March 1, 2010 -

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a report titled Overview of K-12 and Early Childhood Education Programs. The report is intended to brief legistlators about the federal expenditure on K-12 and early childhood education programs.

February 4, 2010 -

The Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation released a report titled, "Steps Forward," written by CAYL President Valora Washington. The reports discusses the need for better college-level training and higher salaries for Michigan students who want to enter the early childhood profession, and the barriers that prevent that from happening.

January 19, 2010 -

Worcester Magazine highlighted 2009 CAYL Schott Fellow Isabel Gonzalez in an article titled, "Big Thinkers." Isabel is featured in the section "The Inside Outsider."

January 12, 2010 -

The Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center released a report titled "An Unstable Ladder: How the Fiscal Crisis is Threatening Education and Work Support Programs for Many Women." This report examines how these programs support the participation of women in the workforce, and how they have been affected by state budget cuts.

January 7, 2010 -

Today, the Boston Globe has printed two articles relative to education. The first, House swiftly OKs sweeping education measure, reports that the state House of Representatives passed an education bill that aims to overhaul the state’s worst schools and expand charter schools. The second, A rescue mission for education, is an editorial by Governor Deval Patrick.

The University of Washington’s Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy has released two reports that tackle issues important to urban district and school leaders:

Marianna Islam, Assistant Vice President of United Way of Central Massachusetts and a 2009 CAYL Schott Fellow, wrote an article for her organization in response to some of the backlash against the new regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. November 4, 2009 -

Today, the Boston Globe ran an article titled "A year after the election, Obama focuses on schools." The article talked about Obama's visit to Wright Middle School in
Madison, Wisconsin, where he spoke of his wish for public education to become a pillar of the new economy.

October 29, 2009 -

Congratulations to CAYL Principal Fellow Dr. Robert Martin, Principal of the Hugh Roe O’Donnell Elementary School in East Boston. O'Donnell Elementary School has been identified as the highest performing school in the state under the new MCAS evaluation criteria. Click here to read the Boston Globe article.

October 26, 2009 -

We Can Do Better: Child Abuse and Neglect Deaths in America from the Every Child Matters Education Fund shows that 10,440 children in the U.S. are known to have died from abuse and neglect between 2001 and 2007.The report was the first survey of its kind to examine the issue state-by-state and noted the states with the highest rate of deaths due to abuse and neglect. The Boston Herald printed an article titled, "State imposing host of new requirements on day-care providers" about new regulations being passed by the MA Department of Early Education and Care.

National Public Radio has posted a video titled "Principals Bring Hope to Struggling Schools". This video clip was part of PBS' The Principal Story, which aired Tuesday, September 15, 2009.
